How to align between youngsters’ vision&goals and their daily activities

A few years ago, I had a session in front of college students (ages 16-19) in London on Time Management Method (Gold Model).

It was a session that was divided into two parts. In the first session, we built the framework, and in the second,we went through the Feedback System (self-reflection framework).

One of the students had a very interesting case when he built his vision for his future career. He told me
that he wants to become the owner of the best Mexican restaurant in London.

He knew his future plans, which are quite unique at this age.

After one week, we had the second session that covered the self-reflection framework (Feedback System) around weekly activities, and one of the exercises was to build the main KPIs (Key
Performance Indicators) for each individual. KPIs help you to track your
progress toward achieving your goal.

A simple example of this would be a salesperson who should hit a target of $1M.

Out of this goal, one can extract some KPIs such as:

How many phone calls do I
need to make?

How many meetings do I need
to generate?

How many deals do I need to
close per month?

Back to the student example, in his case, the KPIs for his studies was to have a 90% attendance rate.

He told me that he really struggles with this as he had some challenges waking up in the morning.

I told him that he doesn’t need to wake up to satisfy his parents or teachers; the main reason for doing that is to fulfil his vision to open a restaurant.

“If you want to open your own restaurant in a few years, you need to be the most disciplined person in this class and part of this is coming to school on time in order to nurture this habit as part of your daily life.”
