Does productivity rely only on measurements?
When you think about productivity — what is the first thing that comes into your mind?
I assume that most of you will think about figures that can be measured and determine if you are productive. However, is it all about figures?
My thought is that the data shows just part of the picture.
Let’s see the example below; I am a sales executive for a software company.
The traditional productivity measurements would be:
- phone calls
- introductory meetings
- quotes
- closed deals
What are the hidden spots that can be missed if we put our focus only on those figures?
- How can we improve the quality of our calls?
- What are the features that can be improved in our introductory meeting?
- Do our quotes represent the best solution for this specific client?
- What are the main reasons that we didn’t close 7 out of 10 deals?
This reflection process over those measurements is essential for the continuous improvement of your productivity measurements.
I suggest that the manager and employee think individually about those questions and come to the meeting with their answers.
This process will lead to a fruitful discussion with some action points that need to be done at least once a month.
